Not really? Omega trim is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and PMS3 (soon™), as well as some other boards, fix the issue of a bunch of wires flopping around. I don't really think that's an issue anyway. Most people have all their components and wires secured inside their portables.

What's the issue with the motherboard being cut? With a custom PCB, the chips still have to be harvested from somewhere.

I'd look at the datasheet for the resistances and find a volume wheel with similar package and size and same specs on other sites like digikey

For a sunburnt n64 that isnt working, I recommend lathering the motherboard in sunscreen cream, making sure its in all of the little metal pins, and turn it on and leave it running for 20 minutes.
