They are open source, but the current revision isn't the best you could find. I suggest you to wait a few weeks for the REV 2 (Beta Kit) to be released on GithHub. Also, I don't know where you've planned ordering, but it will be a huge pain to ship if you order outside the USA.

Amazing work!! Congratulations :D

My guess is you can’t run it without batteries. It will work, but as soon as you turn the portable off, it will loose the current time. You can either plug a 3V battery, or use the LiPo cells of your portable which seems to work as well :D

I don’t think you can check exactly when it has been bought in a store, but I guess you could know when it has roughly been produced. I just don’t know exactly what the number means, but I’m pretty sure it contains the information you’re looking for :D

Hi! this is a classic and known issue. For some games like this one, you need to press B on the RVLoader menu and set an option called approximatively “PAD read mode“ or something to “Bypass” sorry I don’t remember what’s it’s called, but it should correct the issue ;) Hope it’s helpful...
