Worklog [2024 Contest Entry] PS Pocket

As an aside, I think I figured out the issue: Seems like somehow the /BIOS pin on the CPU was shorted to ground internally, so guessing that is the reason why the console wouldnt boot the PSIO. Going to transplant a replacement CPU and see if I have any luck!

I appreciate the help, but I dont think this relates to the questions I asked.

Worklog [2024 Contest Entry] PS Pocket

Hey @thedrew, when you were removing the wires, was this before or after the dedicated PCB? Trying to get the 18-wire trick to work on a trimmed PM-41(2) but despite my second PSIO, I can't get it to boot with the 18-wires only. Also, is there a particular reason you had pin 4 connected to 3v3...

Worklog [2026 Contest Entry] - The Takara PS1 Portable - "The TPSP"

The initial test is always to swap out the default regulators and pump in your custom power, so that was the first thing I tried. Once I confirmed 5v, 3v5, and 2v5 lines, I got to chopping thanks to @Stitches "theoretical trim". I had marked it out, gave it a once over, and fired up the dremel...

Worklog [2026 Contest Entry] - The Takara PS1 Portable - "The TPSP"

Greetings all! While this is my first entry into the BitBuilt Contest, I have made a GWii Portable and a PS2 Portable thanks to all the great guides and resources available here from the community. I enjoy playing PS1 games on the PS2P, it isn't quite the same, especially since it requires...

Solved PS2 memory card wiring help

Can you provide a clearer image of the memory card, preferably from the top? It looks to me like you have 3v5 connected to the fifth pad, which is the Ground plane (pin 4).

Darn. I'm going to hazard a guess that it's something with your PMS. Might have to wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along, or if you have discord, jump on the BitBuilt one and chat with some of the peeps there

I wouldn't think so, but any chance you can shorten your wires to be no more than a couple inches (~5cm)?

Okay, cool. So looks like something to do with the PMS.Can you check the output voltage on the 5V and 3V3 tails, when the console is powered off, and then watch the measurement as you power on the console. Trying to see if the voltage drops too much causing failure to boot. I'm guessing it's the...

Hmmmmm. Apart from the capacitor you rewired, there isn't anything else removed? If so, and you disconnect the PMS, does the console boot normally with a power supply plugged in? I assume so, but good to check. If it does boot, that would rule out the motherboard and direct the cause to either...

    And a game cartridge?

And just to check, you are plugging in a cartridge and a jumper pak when you are powering it on, yeah? EDIT: Do you have one of your batteries hooked up to the "CHARGE" point? They should be in parallel, both positive and both negative connecting to their respective locations on the PMS.

Looks like you're missing a couple of 3v3 points being wired up. You need to connect all 3 of the individual 3v3 points on the N64

Photos are a great way for us to help diagnose the issue. Are you able to attach some? (PS, you can resize the photos in your post if they are too large)
