So while perusing the BitBuilt site, i've come across hints that you can use the Wii U GC controller adapter on a Wii portable so long as you have the second USB port wired up.
I am interested in using this feature as I would like the ability to do multiplayer GC games but don't necessarily want to try and wire up the controller ports from the wii MB.

So if this is indeed a possibility, how does one go about making this work?

Does it require the official Nintendo brand one? I have an older Mayflash version with only 2 GC controller ports. I assume you would only be able to do 2 player max seeing as there is only one additional USB port on the Wii.

It only works with Nintendont, so you're limited to GC games only. No clue if it needs to be first party.

So it's pretty much plug and play?
also does plugging in the adapter disable the built in controls?

It doesn't, the Wii will prioritize native controls over the adapter. You'll need to include some way to disconnect the internal controller's data lines when you want to use the adapter.
