Look for non-white Wiis on eBay with broken disc drives. I can usually find one for ~$20 with a quick search. If you're having difficulty, you can also look for white Wiis with serial numbers LU7, LU12-19. Those will be 4-layer boards.

At its most basic, the RVL vs RVK designation goes like this:
  • RVL-001 on the sticker means the system has Gamecube controller and memory card ports. If the case is not white, it's guaranteed to be a 4 layer as Nintendo only started releasing non-white Wiis once the 4 layer revision was completed. If the case is white you need to check either the serial number, or the board revision identifier in the CMOS battery compartment to identify its status.
  • RVK-001 units do not have Gamecube controller or memory card ports, and were sold as "Family Edition" Wiis. The pads for the Gamecube controller and memory card ports are still present on the PCB and can be used by modders in exactly the same way. All RVK boards are 4 layer regardless of colour.
