Question U10

Hey so I took a shot at relocating my U10, and I already ran into some problems. First I couldn’t get the solder to bridge on the U10, and then when I did, I couldn’t manage to get the chip off. Fast forward a few attempts and I’m not actually sure if my U10 is working anymore?

Is there any hope for this or am I gonna have to use the U9 instead?

Also is there any advice as for what I’m doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated cause I’m really struggling :/

and to get it off, put soldering iron on high, and then add a blob of solder to it, so it envelopes it, then make it so the iron is touching blobs on both sides, so the solder melts, and then put some force to it, and it should move off the pads, then just use tweezers to remove the u10 from your iron.(unless you have a heat gun)

Thanks, and I did see the U10 troubleshooting but it mostly looked for when you are trying to boot the Wii, and I haven’t even gotten that far yet thanks for the reply!

aslong as you don't tear off the pins off of the u10, it will pretty much still be functional, it's a sturdy component most the time.
if it does break, i'm pretty sure someone around here has some they can ship you

I tested my n64 just to be sure, cause you can definitely tell I fiddled with it, and it booted portablizemii, so I'm gonna give it another try tonight.

Some additional options for removal would be to purchase some chip-quik off of amazon. Its a special alloy of metals that stay molton much longer than regular solder dose. You apply it to the pads of the u10, heat each leg of the u10 quickly to make all the blobs molton at the same time, then lift off with some tweezers.

Its more pricey, but if you think you'll do more SMD work in the future a hot air station may be a good investment!

Another word on the heat gun~
if you plan to continue this as a hobby, I'd suggest picking up a heat gun, they are an essential tool I hear(don't have one yet, but plan to get one :3 )

if you just plan to make a wii portable, and plan to never touch a soldering again except for touch ups, it's not worth it imo.
