Here is my second Wii portable, which I am naming the “SP Liite V2” as it is a refined version of my first portable! I also created a custom case that doubles as a power supply and carrier of the usb-c cable. Here are some final pics and the video!

Here are the specs:

• LMAO v2-trimmed wii motherboard with a full nand relocation (without the flex)
• 3D printed Nylon case from JLC PCB It is also only held together by 2 screws and a sliding/locking mechanism so that it is easy to disassemble
• 3.5” inch composite screen via the cheap $10 320x240 Tianma Screen
• Custom regulators: 5v straight from the USB-C power source, 3.3v via a Mini 360 regulator board, relocated 1.8v LDO, and the 1.15v and 1v line with 2 mp1584en regulator boards
• Custom heatsink made from some aluminum heatsinks, a copper sheet, and a laptop blower fan
• 3DS sliders
• DS Lite buttons, triggers and the select button being used as the Z-button
• All of the screws that are used to hold things together are either from the disassembled wii or DS lite
• Dual action shoulder buttons via a grey squishy tact and the wii power/eject button
• Analog audio via a deadbugged APA2068 that is controlled with a potentiometer wheel. This allows audio to be switched between mono via a single DS lite speaker and stereo headphones when a headphone jack is plugged in
• RVLoader v1.3
• GC+ 1.0
• Removable microSD card with the Kingston microsd to usb adapter
• Trimmed MX chip with the clock and caps relocated with a coin battery (is not currently working though lol)

For the Summer 2022 Bitbuilt competition, I plan on revamping my first wii portable design. Even though the outside looks the same, there are a lot of quality of life updates on the inside and it is slightly bigger to make room for everything. I also plan on modeling a custom case that will have a battery bank incorporated inside so that it can both power/protect the portable

My design goals are similar to the first revision:

• To keep the entire cost of the project as low as possible
• for it to be tethered portable that can run off any 5v 3amp power source (car charger, power bank, wall socket)
• To scavenge as many parts as possible from the a DS Lite
• To have dual action tacts (that work well lol)
• A 3d printed shell
• To make the size in all dimensions as small as possible.
• to make it all black

So far I have my 3d print

I finished the custom protective case that has the battery bank via usbc inside. It has a lid that closes with magnets, is lined it with a nice soft felt that should be able to protect the portable, it can hold the power cable and then also power it on the go!

Next step is finishing up the portable.

Thank you and yes they are! Some of the flat pieces had a little bit of warping, but i just bent them into shape.

Just wondering when I looked through the dismantling of the 3ds there's a black ring acting as a retaining piece for the slider cap do you use that in yours?

They look like these (except they are black) and there isnt anything else like a black ring keeping them attached to the slider

Also, I have some more pics of the 3d printed parts and putting the threaded inserts in so that it will withstand being taken apart if need be. Some of the pics show how i am using the screws to hold the enclosure shut, but does not show outside on the case.

I finished wiring the front part. It is coming along nicely! It looks so good with everything populated.

This time i was able to work on the back side of the case and got the fan, triggers, volume potentiometer, usb micro sd reader and the power usbc jack installed. The next bit will be putting together the heatsink and the custom regulators

Today i got to work on the heatsink and the custom regulators. I am using a copper sheet with some small aluminum heatsinks and some of the MP1584EN regulators to power this guy. Because they get so hot under load, they are screwed to the heatsink with some thermal paste to prevent them from imploding. All in all it works pretty well. The Fan has to be going pretty fast in order to keep it cool and it is a little loud, but it was cheap to implement and didn't show any signs of overheating

And here it is wired up to the trimmed motherboard and booting up (the one i initially trimmed died, so i reused and older trim i had lying around) Hopefully the next post will be the final wiring and then i can close it up!

To avoid the shorting, there is Kapton tape under the regulator pcb where the voltage pads are. I sanded away the pcb mask right where the vias are under the main chip and also used thermal paste to have a good thermal connection to keep them from getting too hot!

That was actually unpopulated when I opened it up. I just soldered there because it was a convenient location for the - terminal of the battery
