Christmas came early!!! @Kamp was my secret santa, and he hooked me up!

20241223_122334.jpg

  • First up is a 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse! He said in his note that it didn't have a USB cable and that I would need to solder one on, but it appears the work has already been done! Weird, maybe something happened while it was in the mail.....
  • Next we have a Neo Geo Mini! It's funny, as I was opening up this package in front of a couple friends, they all started geeking out about it having the Metal Slug series. I personally have never been acquainted with Metal Slug (or anything Neo Geo, really), so I have my homework cut out for me! I have to say, this little guy is really well-built! The screen looks great, the buttons feel great, and the joystick feels..... great! It even has USB-C ports for P1 and P2 controllers, and a mini HDMI port for video out!
  • Finally, a secret third thing, possibly to be revealed at MGC.....
Kamp, my man, thank you so much, and see you at MGC!

I don't know who my secret Santa is, but they sent me an ips gba screen and this neat transparent Blue shell.

When this is completed it'll be my first normal gba. I have an sp, but feel like the form factor of the original is better. I'll post again when the build is complete, but I'm waiting on a new power switch for my "for parts" gba motherboard.

Thank you to whoever sent this to me!
You're welcome man! I really hope you enjoy it.

I heard that the original gba is more comfortable to use than the SP.

Make sure to create a forums post when you start working on it

@cy was my Secret Santa. As I coordinate and send out who everyone rolled to buy for, I knew from the start.

I received my gift about 2 weeks ago (Jesus work really has been killing me) and opened my gift then per his request on Discord. Just getting around to upload what I got now.

My presents were custom wrapped! Lots of inside jokes / references here, but a at least half of these gave a bit of insight into what was inside.

Here's the photo of the contents I took before leaving town. We have (top to bottom, left to right)...
  1. Youmu Konpaku fumo (tl;dr, plushy). One of my favorite Touhou characters!
  2. Crash Nitro Kart. Nice! I Loved CTR on PS1, though this is a different developer IIRC I never had a chance to play it much so it'll be interesting
  3. One of the Onegai Teacher DVDs. I really want to see how the official subs / release is.
  4. .hack//sign DVDs ( and some .Hack manga. Always meant to see what .hack is all about; just haven't gotten around to it.
  5. Nisekoi manga vol 1. Man I remember when everyone was talking about this series.
  6. Boxed Crash Bash! That's a strange name for a game.
  7. Charlie & the Chocolate factory for PS2. This game is horrible. In the Discord voice chat one night, I remembered playing this game at a friend's house when I was far younger. They had some game rental service and for some reason borrowed this. It was returned shortly later. Maybe I'll have to hook up capture hardware some day and play it on Discord.
  8. Gundam Unicorn - "War crimes the anime". Never seen unicorn, just Gundam Wing which I rather enjoyed.
  9. (More .hack)

I guess i forgot to include this in the photo as I put it on a different shelf. So I guess a stock photo will have to do for now, oops. I was also send Touhou 7, Perfect Cherry Blossom (PCB)! It has a relevant acronym and is personally my favorite of the official Touhou games I've played. It's also the game where Youmou is introduced and Alice (one of my other favorite characters) was re-introduced from the PC-98 era.

I'll have to try and install & play this on my Pentium MMX machine that's running Win2k. I know it doesn't like EoSD but that may be the English patches breaking everything.

Thanks again @cy ! You really went all out - you didn't have to send all this!

My secret santa hooked me up with some awesome HAL effect switch joysticks! I've been wanting to start using these in my builds more but they're just so expensive, so I really appreciate it and will put them to good use!

just so many i am so cool
I opened up my box to a mountain of various passives, a 6-layer Wii motherboard, and a micro-USB cable.

Why a micro-USB cable? It must be for the PlayStation classic they sent in a nice carrying case! I'm tempted to turn it into a miniature crab, but I gotta finish the big crab first.

And lastly, there was a digital delivery of a very cool bit of Waluigi art his daughter made! The streak of Waluigi gifts continues.

When I came home from my holiday travels, I was greeted by a package from @CrazyGadget!
Inside was a really nice note describing the gifts he got me!
20241230_133348.jpg

My first set of gifts are a trio of Gamecube-esque controllers.
As an aficionado of fun and interesting controllers, I was super excited to see this selection!
I love the wild curves of the intec controller and how small and compact all the buttons are on the MadCatz controller.
The peach controller actually goes to the Princess Peach Wii U wiimote, so I'm happy to have that pairing now.
I might just have to try to get the rest now!
But that wasn't all...

As if he could read my mind, CrazyGadget also decided to order me the 8bitdo Xbox themed keyboard!
1735775724480.png

I'm a big fan of how it looks and can't wait to get it!
I may need to be restrained from using the keycaps in a new keyboard controller...

Thanks again CrazyGadget! What a great coincidence that we were paired up for secret santa.
Looking forward to seeing ya at MGC!

Sorry for the late post!

I received my secret Santa gift a bit late because it was lost in my mail proxy service.

We got multiple nice things, first one is a 4 layer Wii motherboard in great shape:

Only took two bodge wires and a drop of hot glue (I ordered the wrong power switch ) and I have a fully functional gba now. Here it is in all its glory.

It's right at home with my family of handhelds.

Thanks once again to @RDNoob26 For this wonderful gift.
