Hi everyone,
I have an idea for a handheld mod that I want to try out. I own an original 2DS with it's very fun and very not foldable design. I want to do some hardware upgrades but something I was wondering, since I havent ripped it open yet, is if I could transfer the console to a clamshell case like every other model of DS ever.

My main worries are if the motherboard is built in an awkward way or if designing a clamshell case with a DS form-factor is even possible with 3D printing.
Obviously, a lot of the parts, like the shoulder buttons, would have to be replaced, but I think I should be able to find suitable replacements.

Basically, I wanted to know if anything like this has been attempted in the past, and if it has, I'm curious what the results were. I'd appreciate any feedback on my idea. Thanks :)

Hey, welcome!

The 2DS has one big screen inside-- there aren't two separate LCDs like in the DS/3DS. So, you wouldn't be able to use the original screen.

The motherboard is also really big and has high-speed stuff spanning the top and bottom halves.

Unfortunately, a conversion would be an absolutely massive amount of work and wouldn't be worth it vs getting a 3DS or 2DS XL.

Appreciate the explanation! And yeah, looking at those hurdles I would have to deal with... I might be ok with its current layout. I think toss that idea and put more attention to some other upgrades I could do.
