Working on two ps2 portables atm started the second due to the fact im waiting on the case and my Dremel set to finish the first one.so far I made a few awesome discoveries on the 2nd portable though!
all images are from the second project which uses a 50001 motherboard. ( hit a brick wall though. I cant seem to get the wire to solder to the points I found for the controller ! :(

hope I wot get told about double posting for this!
so I decided to remove all the components off of the controller/mmc board and wire it directly to it.(ps doing that as im typing this.)

if I relocate the cap on the board to a different spot to save me some height would it work correctly still?

relocating the capacitor should be fine, and it would probably work just fine without it, honestly

but to address the elephant in the room, why are you using a fat ps2 mobo? There's a lot more support for the 7900x model, and its almost half the size, and the power draw is much less.

my first one is a 77001 which is on hold. my cousin have me his fat ps2 so I decided two days ago to start making a portable out of it even if its large. so far I can use a 3s n know it will be used to dead completely. I actually killed some lil tiny components on the controller port board while removing the ports sadly so now only pl2 mem card slot works. so I now gonna g back and swap some parts n knowledge for the 77001 portable

I did the exact same thing, and tried to use a 77001. Not only is the documentation much worse, it's too big to be practically put into a portable unit. Now I am not saying that it's impossible, but i highly recommend ordering a 79001 and using that instead. As well as being smaller, I found the 79001 to be less fragile. My 77000 bricked a week after I got it .
