Why do you want to put in a DVD drive? Are there really any benefits to using one as opposed to a USB?

Use a magnifying glass and follow the traces on the motherboard or just solder some wires to the through holes and put the port wherever you want.

This makes sense, you can also use samba to network share games which is faster than USB and quite comparable to disc loading. A flat Raspberry Pi (no ports on it) has a really small footprint in most cases.

I'd recommend using a 7900X board if you can acquire it. The components are more central on the motherboard so it will fit better in the case. The 90000 series has the controller port and associated components located on an "L" away from the motherboard so if you trim that off you will be forced to solder the controllers/memory cards to traces which is not fun.

If you want, here you can buy this on me. I bought this for PHP 2000 which is equivalent to $ 39.10

Holding and trimming the board should be the first thing you do before even considering your case design. Try to get a hold of the board and play around with it before you plan the other aspects of the portable like case design.

They are pretty easy to find on ebay if you are in america. Just type in ps2 slim 79001 and a bunch come up. It is much better to measure things yourself than have to trust other people.

The 79003 is very similar to the 79001, is a viable alternative for a basic trim as well. I'm still working on my 79003 trim (same trim as gman's modern PS2) but have some issues i hope to debug in the next couple weeks. It's safe to trim most of the ground though and might be easier to find in your country than the 79001 (it's much easier in the UK to find at least)
