Figured I would post this here, as I can't figure out what's wrong with both of these boards.
I bought them both from eBay as "Parts Only/Not Working", which is fine.
I've checked multiple ports with a multimeter, and I cannot seem to figure out where the issue is.

I figured i could post the pictures of both boards, and maybe someone has an idea, or any suggestions on what I could try, or maybe any "common issues" that I may not know about.

It almost seems they both have the same exact issue. I tried removing the power port on both, and tried using a USB-C adapter, which still doesn't power on the board, so I don't think it's those pads.

Any help is appreciated!

If any additional pictures are needed, let me know.
If I can't get these working, it isn't the end of the world, and it's good practice for me to work on.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that I may not have thought of.

Thanks again!

Checked the fuse?
I've checked a bunch of them, which most show as 0.00, showing a connection is fine.
Though, some don't, and seems to be the same on both boards.

For example:

Though, I'm not sure specifically WHICH ones are fuses, and which ones could be causing the issue.

F0001 - Fine on both.
PS3 - Fine on both.
PS7 - Fine on Board 1, not showing a connection on Board 2.
PS11 - Fine on both.
PS14 - Fine on both.
PS15 - Fine on both, though it seems like 2 different fuses. Not sure if that's an issue since they're two different board models.

PS17 - Fine on both.
TH4000 - Seems fine on both.
TH8001 - Fine on both.

Not sure if i'm blind or if it just isn't obvious, but I can't seem to find PS1.

Still new to electronics repairs, so forgive my ignorance.

If it's not the barrel jack being loose which can be a common problem, it's either one of the many fuses on the back of the board as wesk mentioned

its possible that it's likely one of the voltage regulators that failed as well and that's something you can't necessarily be sure of unless you know what to look for, or unless you either remove them and power it externally or trim the board and try to power it externally.

Another unfortunate thing would be that one of the main components has fried itself from a short etc. But it's hopefully unlikely.

I had the same type of issue with my PS2 and all of the fuses were good so I determined it was one of the existing voltage regulator IC's so I trimmed the board and powered it externally via the PSU I made and it worked. I would recommend looking into the various fuses on the back of the board which are the components labeled PS1 etc. And if all of your fuses give continuity as they should, then i would look into the voltage regulating components

Also check the compendium to see where each voltage is if you can! I had 8.5v going to the board but didn't have the 3.5v standby getting power, and that's how I had kinda determined it was a regulator or voltage switching issue

I agree with Legend on this. I have 3–4 boards I got from eBay that were DOA, and all of them have good fuses. They’re not easy to troubleshoot because when they fail the power-on cycle, they just turn back off again. You either get the "Red to Green to Red" sequence or just the red light with no response when pressing the power button.

I’m fully convinced that trimming those boards and building the "PS2 Voltage Regulator Board" (thanks,@Legend ) is the best way to move forward.

I want to build one specifically for troubleshooting (slightly modifed of course)—using it to inject voltage and then monitoring with an infrared camera to see what starts to get hot. It seems like if you do enough troubleshooting this way, you might start to notice a pattern.

I think "Legend" has the best answer as right now.

@DoeKe if you figure it out, please post your findings!

Since i'm actually fairly new to soldering, and working on electronics, it's not something I'm ACTIVELY working on as it's more of a side project since I already have the two boards, but once I pick it back up, I will gladly post here if I find out anything.

I had an issue with a 79k recently where the 5V regulator was getting really hot (circled in the pic). This happened after the board was trimmed, and I had powered it on for a while during testing of the MX4SIO and ModBo install. Everything was working, and I didn’t notice anything until the fan started squawking—that’s how hot the board got.

Anyway, I immediately started with the obvious stuff first: the trim. I found a small piece of copper that was kind of wedged under the socket (see pic below). I re-sanded the trim and everything else, but the board still got hot. I then started pulling components off the board using the board scans from this post by @Mister M (board-scan-ps2-79003) as a reference. thank you!

I eventually injected 5V directly onto the regulator's 5V output pad on the board. That’s when I discovered the laser driver IC was getting super hot. Since this build doesn’t use an optical drive, I removed the IC. I will eventually order another one and replace it because I’d like my Ultra Slim to be as complete as possible.

My point is that I probably would never have found the issue without using the voltage injection method for troubleshooting. Most of you guys already know this, but I’m addressing those who might not have thought of this method before.

I should have you send me over a set of those, FBD. lol.

It would be neat to tinker around with those broken boards with those.

Update on this original topic:

Since the two boards have been sitting around, and I've been unable to fix them myself due to inexperience,
I will be boxing them both up, and shipping both boards out to @Customledmods to have a look into repairing them.

Maybe they'll have better luck than I have had.

Gonna let them keep the uncut one, since I already did the cut on the other one.

I received both boards and starting working on them I noticed that the ps1 fuse on both were bad so I replaced them with a working one and nothing no power.

Next step is as to check the 8 pin Ic on back that supplies 1.8v standby I replaced it and got nothing.

so finally I decided to remove all the onboard regulators and power it with my custom voltage reg board first shot it powered on.

I’m thinking one of the onboard regulators was bad I just don’t know which one since I’m at hotel and I didn’t bring my hot air gun, at this point I’ll send @DoeKe a working board that I have and I’ll continue work on his boards.
