I should do that for my next portable.

the reason i said "Fricc pth08080s" was because my 5v reg had apparently died since I accidentally hooked up +7.4v to the 5v line on the wii.

So I decided that since i was only gonna use 5v for usb and *maybe* my headphone amp, I'd do some ghetto stuff. So I marked off the 5v voltage regulator ic (XL1509) and other caps and inductors etc. on my old crappy composite screen, cut them off the driver board + sanded, and wired it up to +5v from a USB cable.

I got ~2.23v. the XL1509 has a feedback pin that sets some constant or whatever i suck at math. two smd resistors and one capacitor set this constant or whatever. After realizing that Vin/(5/2.23) ≈ 5v where Vin = the stock 12v, I was prepared to do some kewl maths stuffs like an epic pro gamer .


...except i couldn't see the traces and couldn't figure out which part was which (using the schematic for fixed 5v in the datasheet). So, of course, I did the only reasonable thing: I took off the smd components one by one. After taking off 1 resistor, I got ~2.6v. after resistor #2, I got ~2.8v that quickly began to drop to ~2.4v. So I took off the cap and got ~5v. I tested the reg with the 7.4v from my battery pack and got ~5v.

So I wired it up, found out that my samsung flash drive is ded, (waitthatmeansmypth08080verylikelydidn'tdiehecc) which is why ploader wasn't finding anything, and eventually got everything working again .

Unfortunately, I may have dropped some solder on one of the inductors or something and my 5v reg started making annoying white noise everytime the wii fetched data from the USB. Fortunately I was correct in surmising that my samsung drive died and my 5v pth08080 reg is fine.

I also made this custom intro THP which looks pretty good even through composite compressed to 640x480.

so i got this kewl looking amp but can't figure out how to wire it up...

I hooked up vcc+, gnd, lin- and rin-, and the headphone jack, but i don't even hear ambient white noise. Any tips on wiring?

It appears to be missing a component...? Also, I'd suggest a different board, since that one requires -vcc (which isn't ground btw).

I dont think its missing a component, it's just a ti 6120a2 amp

Anyway, reading the datasheet shows you do indeed need -vcc, which you would need to generate separately, so I would suggest a different amp (perhaps one from the BOM?)

well, due to noobery, I lost the h and v pins on my ave. I've a few questions:

1) Does this mean I can't output component anymore?

2) If I can, I wanted to use a component -> hdmi converter for use with a 3.5" screen since i can find any boards that support ypbpr. What should I use?

I don't know about the ability to still output component. Assuming you can uninstall the VGA patches I think component *should* still work.

As for 3.5 inch component, HDMI convertors are generally mediocre at best. Also, what 3.5 inch screen are you trying to use? All the 3.5 inch HDMI screens that I know of are meant for Pi's, and they generally don't play nice with other applications. Generally the screen won't show all of the picture, or some other issue will arise.

I'd recommend getting and trimming a new Wii for VGA, or to just suck it up and use composite.

If you're having so much trouble soldering to pins of the AVE, you won't be able to replace the AVE even if you have the tools to do so. Having the tools to do something definitely doesn't give you the ability to do it. Don't bother wasting a working Wii. Try a new wii, and if you break that one somehow you can try to transplant the AVE. But you should definitely be more careful and practice more and use lower temps because I've been seeing you consistently damaging parts or having things not work.
