I am looking to buy a multimeter. I am currently using my dad's, but it's actually a clamp meter and it's more for electrical work, so it's not as precise, and it's pretty old anyway. I'd like one that's not too expensive, but actually works well, and if possible, I'd like to be able to use normal stabby leads, or alligator clips, depending on the situation. The problem is, I don't know what to look for, what brands are good, reasonable prices, or anything like that. Can anyone recommend anything or help me figure out what to look for?

My meter is a radioshack one (RIP) so I don't have a recommendation as to what to get, however I can recommend that you don't get one of the cheap shit ones from china, they're garbage at best, and will only cause you headache.

I use an Amprobe AM-510 that I got back when they were $50.

At school we used the Fluke 115, and it's a pretty damn solid meter.

That said, I also have a lot of experience using these harbor freight meters, and they're pretty decent for disposables.

If you do go the HF route, also invest in some quality leads to make it almost worth your while. These are the first thing Amazon showed me, but I can't personally speak for their quality:

I was looking at the multimeters you suggested, and I saw this one. Does it sound like a good one? I'm thinking this one and the set of test leads and clips and stuff.
