So I have been hearing a few things about something called the MiSTER FPGA....what exactly is it? I know its used for retro gaming, but outside of that, I know almost nothing, but I am really curious about it.

It is an open-source project for hardware emulation. People recreate (or in some cases reverse-engineer) the hardware for a retro system in HDL (a MiSTER core). HDL is essentially a "programming language" to describe hardware logic, which is used to program an FPGA to implement the circuit. The MiSTER platform then supports multiple cores to play different retro game consoles on.

Hi,

a good mix of background information and demo of the results can be found on youtube - here my favorites:

The great thing about MiSTer is that there are also Cores for retro PC's like the C64 or AMIGA. So not only the SW can be archived but also the Hardware functionality.

I'm currently modding and building an C64C like retro PC with MiSTer inside but have to wait for some parts -.-
