Hey all!
I joined the forums a short time ago and I'm currently starting up a Wii portable project. But first! I wanted to show off my Raspberry Pi portable, the JonBoy!
This is the first portable project I've done, and I've sort of had this idea floating in my head for several years, but now I have the budget and know-how to pull it off. I bought a 3D printer specifically for this project, and I certainly used it to its full potential. I printed everything--and I mean everything--on this project. Basically anything that doesn't have electricity flowing through it was designed and printed by myself; the case, buttons, D-pad, internal mounting hardware, you name it.
I attempted installing a fan, but it was too power hungry. Although, honestly after playing it for several hours at a time, it doesn't really need active cooling. RPis are very good at managing CPU load, and I'm not running anything 3D so it doesn't generate much heat at all. Even the case is only slightly warm to the touch.
Now that I've been digging into Wii portabilizing, I've learned a ton and I would certainly do it very differently after learning what I have. There's no speakers and no real power management so I'm kind of guessing on battery life. That being said, I still use it all the time and it's been a great learning experience.
