Question How do buttons work?

I know. Silly question. But I've been looking at the Gboy manual and im struggling to understand how to incorporate buttons into my own build without a custom PCB. Any explanations or links to resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

The G-Boy controller PCB is a custom adaptation of the GC+ 2.0, which is an open source GameCube controller emulator made by Aurelio. You can check out the code here: https://github.com/Aurelio92/GCPlus-2.0. You can also buy an assembled, general purpose version of the board from 4Layer Tech.

You can use 3DS button PCBs for ABXY and dpad if you want. There are also gerber files for DS-Lite and Switch button PCBs in this thread https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?threads/discontinued-bitbuilt-custom-pcbs.4310/

You would pair either option with a GC+ and your choice of joysticks. (most people use Switch joycon sticks for compact portables)
