GS2 rev2!

I started working on this a few weeks ago and I had some free time this weekend to make some good progress. The GS2 design is over 2 years old now so I basically started from the beginning on this. I'll be using the PS2PMS and hopefully the stock USB-C board (if it doesn't fit I'll have to redo the layout though I'm hoping I won't have to).

I'll also be using a custom PS2+ where I will modify the firmware to have an I2C master so I can control the audio amp and LCD menu dac like how I did on the 2DC. I haven't used the new PS2+ code so I'm excited to try it out.

The trim is an Advanced PS2 trim from the guide, but cut much closer to the max lines. I am able to rotate the motherboard so I don't have to rewire a custom video dac.

Next part I am working on is the controller PCBs. It's a similar build to the 2DC in that the only custom parts will be the controller. Everything else is utilizing the same power assets. This will allow me to finish it quicker and know that the features will be tested and solid.

Had a long weekend to get some progress done before Shankapolooza. On the right PCB is the PIC mcu for PS2+ and on the other the LM49450 digital audio amp and DAC.

This is just sexy AF. Makes me want to try my hand at the PS2 again.

Also, do want to hold that case. Looks so comfy to play. So thin.
The ps2 can be trimmed much smaller now. I still believe it can be trimmed small enough to fit in a PSP O.o

That sounds great for the future of PS2. Sir, will you publish those trims in the ps2 trimming guide?

Looks extremely good, the PCBs look compact too. Would love to build one myself someday, maybe even try relocate the video DAC like you have in previous portables. Would love to see that trim added to the guide, similar to the LMAO V2 and LMAO trims for the Wii.

Great that you don’t have to do it for this one though. Incredible work as per usual!

PCBs are in from JLC. I hand soldered them in an effort to save money on prototypes. Haven't even touched the PS2+ code yet and I have to remap pretty much all the pins, hope it works

PS2+ has a great framework so it wasn't too much work to remap the chip. Then I included my PIC i2c master driver and added in the control for the LM49450 digital audio amp and MCP4706 dac (really great IC. It's tiny 6 pin I2C 12-bit dac and it's 73 cents). By polling the controller state responses for the correct button combo, then when the combo is matched, it sends the new data over i2c.

I used R1 + Tri + DPAD for volume and R2 + Tri + Dpad for the screen controls. Seems like it works flawlessly but I will need some play time on it once the portable is assembled.

Nothing wrong with the analog stick calibration in stock PS2+ but I hard coded my own joycon stick range values and added parameter for deadzone and axis inversion in the code.

I need to copy that battery cover thing sometime btw, loved it on the original GS2 as well.

I am using PS vita dpad and action buttons. OGS2 used psp action buttons. these ones have rubber pieces on them so they feel good using thin tact switches. I think the main body should be around 25mm.

GS2 is just about together except for a few finishing details like not having the proper headphone jack and m2 nuts on hand.

Not a single drop of hotglue used :awesome: because I ran out a few weeks ago and haven't restocked.
