Hi all after about 2 years of lurking the fourm on and off and doing absurd amounts of research I think it is finally time to take a crack at building my first ps2 portable however the case is going to be rather large as being my first portable it will give me extra space to work with. so in any case let's get started I have some important questions
20220628_170757.jpg

So I was browsing around at the bargain bin and found a battery pack for 5$ that holds 7 cells says there 3.6v not sure how much mah dosen't say on the imprint without a way to test my plan is to disolder everything and use only 4 of these batteries to rebuild a battery pack however can the circuit board on this battery pack be used for my portable? It looks like a standard bms it is basically a Dyson vacuum cleaner battery pack may be Chinese or aftermarket but if it is a real Dyson battery pack then those batteries are for sure good but the 3.6v rating hmmm?? Not sure an answer on wether the board or battery are useful would be awesome anyway moving on o ya I'll be removing the prongs on top of that board as they are the power connectors p+ p- anyway

Here is the case that I'm going with it's rather large but I won't be trimming the board just trimming off 1 of the usb ports sanding the board and the left over usb part for possible relocation so as far as the controllers I will be using netplay controllers cut and placed on bolth sides with bondo hair and I will repaint the whole case black and reuse that sweet little playstation logo on the front of the ps2 slim

Gotta love those netplay controllers when you can find them :D so anyway some help and pointers would be awesome yes I am well aware of the trimming guide and console modding 101 wich are awesome guides and well appreciated but if any of you have recommendations for a screen types of audio amps bms??? More In case I cant already use what is attached to the battery pack also I have taken apart multiple portable dvd drives to see if I could wire up a screen somehow with issues such as not being able to find a proper place to wire it up or it not being possible at all as I want my screen to run on the well known 5v yes I know of car backup monitors (TFT) screens I have several I just want something bigger than 5 inches so anyway there will be more as I will take pictures as I am building it so I can make a proper worklog this thread is only for pointers and the battery pack mainly thank you for any responses recommendations or any replys at all they will be much appreciated

So can I use the chip on the battery pack? Is it even a bms?

-It does look like some kind of protection circuit. In regards to the battery capacity rating, it'd usually be on the battery itself.

- For the 3.7V battery pack, I don't think it'll works off the bat. For an untrimmed and unmodified ps2 79000x, you're able to power it off a 7.4V battery. It can be easily modified to run off 6V.

-If you want to, you can rearrange the batteries in a 2S configuration, and purchase a 2S BMS.

Thank you the information is much appreciated I decided to go with a different case the one I chose is too large however it could come in handy for another portable in the future I am not going to trim the board i have decided not to but i will trim other boards for future projects when I become a little bit more in tune with the ps2 79001 motherboard as Gman did post a thread on a bordscan wich will come in handy but I also have another question wich I asked stitches for but he told me to post a thread about it what type of audio amplifier can I use or would be best for an untrimmed board?

Ahh I see a 5v 300MA switching regulator it will need a heatsink but that won't be to hard at all i have a ton of small heatsinks I just pulled from a dlp tv a couple days ago also I word to anyone building portables want some good wires of different gauges for power and data transfer if your not already using ide wire pull apart a dlp tv it has shitloads of goodies in it you can normally find them on the side of the road or dumped out in bum f*** nowhere

You can use a battery pack of 3.7v and a step up to raise the voltage to constat 5v and with a simple mod to the ps2 motherboard u can run it with 5v with out any other mods or trimming,
I was able to run the ps2 with a single 18650 here is a video of it ( sorry that is in spanish lol i need to make another video in inglish)

Sweet thank you man I'll watch it for sure that's sweet only 1 18650 lol?

O ya I speak Spanish by the way so itll be a breeze

Ok so check these out 1 was pulled from a picture frame display 1 from a portable dvd player and the one on top is a monitor all of them are ips displays now the main question is the bords that hook up to them are useless unless you guys know something about them that I dont but is there a way to get boards for them specifically for are purposes?

U if u know the pin count on the flex and the resolution of the screen u may find a lcd controller board in aliexpress but if i was u would study the original lcd controller board and use that

Good idea I have actually been studying the original boards on these I have also been picking them up at thrift shops and Ebay ips photo frames and portable dvd drives maybe I can design a bord on pcb way that supports these types of screens and force them to run on 5v without the need for all the bells and whistles on the original boards I will continue to pick these up and study them for are purposes until I come up with a solid solution the screens also come in many shapes and sizes wich is awesome for portable building

I did Google all of the chips on the original board of the larger one and did find a video controller chip but it is impossible to find the exact diagram on its pinouts I will add pictures here in a few but I am definitely going to start another thread on this topic tomorrow if I can get enough users on board then we could actually have something this is actually getting quite interesting I have a couple more of these that I'm going to Take apart

And here is a picture of the chip that is the area of focus

And here is what I Found

Now I believe that this is the wrong chip but the same series would any of you be able to read the proper pinouts of this diagram or maybe find the proper diagram? This is the screen I want to use and I love how interesting this is getting it will be a hell of a challenge >:D
