Hi all,

Im a novice at soldering: soldered laptop hard drive connectors on motherboards, replaced LEDs in TVs, and capacitors in PCs. I just know the basics.

I have never had luck finding a good soldering iron for precision soldering.

I recently moved to Japan and thought I would try to portablize a wii I bought here. I have the beginning materials - wii, display, video controller board - but am not sure what tools to get.

Anyone have recommendations on a good model soldering iron and multimeter? I assume flux and wicks don't matter too much on brand.

Thank you!

A good soldering station at a cheap price is the weller wlc100. There are others but you definitely want one with good temperature control.

Any cheap multimeter would do. I wouldnt spend less than $20, those super cheap ones are built like children's toys. My favorite one is the fluke 15b+. Its genuine fluke brand but built for asian market so it is significantly less than most flukes although same quality, around $80.

Kester flux is great. Especially kester 951.

Thank you! I will check them out! I appreciate the tips.

Is this the model you referenced? https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B000AS28UC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=weller+wlc+100&qid=1584875391&sr=8-1
