[h]BitBuilt 2.0 - Coming Winter 2017[/h]

BitBuilt 2.0 is a massive overhaul of the site coming later this year. It will contain major changes and upgrades to several components of the site such as style, software integration, and quality of life features.

All of the updates included in 2.0 will be released at once on a set date that is yet to be announced. We will be having a period of beta testing for many of the new features that users will be able to sign up for.

More information can be found down below.

[h]The Features[/h]

Calling an update "the biggest to ever come to the site" means that it will be packed full of new and updated features to the site. For the 2.0 update, we have decided to focus on three main categories when approaching which features to initially include.

[h]Image Uploader[/h]

For the longest time, members of this and past forums have used services such as Imgur, Photobucket, and TinyPic to upload all of their images. All of the mentioned services were fine back in the day, but unfortunately many of the images have been lost or deleted by the hosting companies and by the users themselves.

The BitBuilt 2.0 update will bring a dedicated image uploader that is linked with your forum account. As long as you're logged into the forums, you'll be able to upload images, both public and private, directly to our storage servers completely uncompressed and with no cost associated. The new uploader will support both images and short video clips and will not have a maximum size associated with image files.

Much like Imgur, you will be able to upload albums and keep them unlisted, public, or private so that only you can view them when logged in.

[h]Dedicated Servers[/h]

Since we started BitBuilt, we have been using a shared web host for our website. It's been great for our needs, but as we expand and add more software, we need more control over the actual server that hosts the website. When we move over to the 2.0 platform, we will be hosting it on a Virtual Private Server so that we are in complete control over the software that our website runs on.

The server selected has incredible speeds and is hosted here in the USA. This also means that we will experience little to no downtime once we move over.

[h]Style[/h]

The forums and front page have always shared stylistic elements but have never been "the same" in terms of a shared theme because they run on different software. With the 2.0 update, both the front page, the forums, and the wiki will run under XenForo meaning that one theme will be applied to all of the mentioned services. We are also investigating potential store integration to get all services under one theme.

Not only will the theme be the same, but the login information across all services will also be shared. As long as you have a forum account, you'll have a front page account, a store account, and an image uploader account. One login is all you'll need.

[h]Community Suggestions[/h]

As we get closer to being ready for a beta, we will release a signup form that will allow you to register your interest in playing a part in the beta.

If there are any other features you'd like to see built into the update, be sure to leave them down below!
