I recently trimmed a wii and bought a pms lite, but when testing the wii I found that the LDO had gone bad. I don't really want to buy a pms 2 just for one power rail so I was thinking about the use of a simple buck converter module and found the "Pololu 1.8V, 500mA Step-Down Voltage Regulator D24V5F1". This was the best module I found that could receive 3.3v and output 1.8v but it can only output 500mA. I was wondering if it would be safe to power the 1.8v rail with this. I've done some research and found the undervolt stats have the 1.8v rail marked at 510mA under heavy load, so would the deficit be large enough for the wii to suffer damage?

Yeah you want a 1A reg at least. Cheap regs rarely operate properly near their rated maximum, so you pretty much need to overshoot by a comfortable margin or you will get system crashes

I'm willing to try to make my own, but does anybody know if their is a pre-assembled module I can buy because I don't have the greatest soldering skills.

I don't know of any plug and play solutions, but the PTH08080 would be close. It just needs one RSET resistor and two 100uf electrolytic capacitors. Might be tricky to get one depending on where you live though

Well if you can get one, this is how you set it up

The resistor value doesn't need to be exactly what's in the table, it can be a bit lower or higher. Just be sure to put an output filtering capacitor on it too. Without an output cap you risk the RAM dying from noise. Ginger can tell you all about the many 3.3v peripherals that he lost finding that out

Yeah you'd have to use 5v from the PMS
