Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Well, I finally got the original trim working and the issue was one of the dumbest things I could have imagined. Turns out it actually WAS booting, but my Wii video cable (from the tv to the port) was bad. Literally all I did was straighten out the cable and I saw the RV loader text come up. I...

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

At this point I just kind of don’t know what else to try. My other Wii comes in tomorrow so maybe I’ll just try trimming that first and see what happens.

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

This might be a bad idea, but if I’ve confirmed that the PMS, Wii, and U10 are all getting the voltages that they should and that it’s just a video issue, would it be worth trying to wire up the display since the portable isn’t going to use composite video anyways?

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

I shortened the twisted wire to about 2 inches and it still didn’t output any video, so I tried the shielded video cable (~3 inches for that one) and that also didn’t work unfortunately.

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Ok, so I’m finally making some headway here. I went back and sanded along the 3.3v area of my Wii a bit more and I’m getting all of the correct voltages now with the Wii powered on. I also re-checked the PMS-2 and am still getting the right voltages from that when isolated from the Wii now as...

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

That would make a lot of sense, I did reflow the solder there to clean things up when I disconnected everything but I wonder why it didn’t immediately fix the issue. Strange about the Wii too. I did manage to get a second Wii for cheap just in case so maybe I’ll just do another trim and see if...

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

So something weird happened today. I was checking over all of my stuff again and I measured the voltage on my PMS-2 with everything detached just as it was the other day, and I was suddenly getting 3.3 volts from the 3.3v line despite the measurements from the other day. It was reading all of...

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Ok, hopefully that’ll work out then when I can get a different PMS. Thanks again so much for all of your help, I really appreciate you taking the time to help out a random stranger online!

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Hopefully I’ll be able to get my PMS exchanged.. I’ve been so careful with that thing with the fear of this exact thing happening. Based off of the Wii resistances, do you suspect I’ll need a new Wii too?

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Well, I think we found the problem. My PMS2 isn’t outputting any voltage from the 3.3v line. When I measured each current, I got: 1.01v for 1v, 1.159v for 1.15v, 1.815v for 1.8v, and a whopping 0 for 3.3v. I tried testing from a few different ground points, turned it off and on again and...

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Just realized my brain was on autopilot and I measured resistance for everything. What should I use for the PMS?

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

So ironically after measuring my resistances again with nothing hooked up to the Wii, my 1.8v and 3.3v lines seem to be mostly correct values. It's actually when the 1v and 1.15v lines are introduced that things are measuring low, and the 1v and 1.15v currents on their own that are measuring...

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Got it. I will report back when I get the chance to measure those separately. Thanks again for your help, it is very much appreciated!

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

I believe that when I checked, the Wii was still connected, but not powered on. I will check with everything disconnected next.

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

I’ll also add that I originally hadn’t removed the LDO and was still getting no current from 1.8V with the Wii powered on. I thought maybe something was shorting underneath it so after seeing Wesk’s video on removing it without hot air, I went ahead and took it out thinking it may solve the...

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post! Unfortunately, adding the second cell doesn’t seem to have done the trick. I am still having the same issue.

Solved Wii Trim - Issue with 1.8v and 3.3v not outputting

Hey there, I’ve been working on an Ashida and recently trimmed my motherboard and have been having issues getting it to start. Currently, when I try to start the Wii, I feel it getting warm but when I tested it with my multimeter while the Wii was powered on, I was not getting any current from...

    BitBuilt Welcome Thread!

Hey everyone, I’m Wes from California. My last name is pronounced “Shock” so I make that my username most places, but Wes or Shock is good! I started modding with custom GameCube controllers, and then moved to GBC’s and GBA’s before seeing the Ashida and wanting to build one of those, so here I am!
