I have a CPU from a Super Famicom, it's removed from the board with the pins completely flooded with solder down one edge. Are there any hints people could share to how to go about getting it all off. anything I've found online is related to removing bridges between pins, with the chips still situated on the board. I'm pretty stuck trying to get rid of such a large amount of solder on a chip that's loose, without causing damage to the pins.

Two words: solder braid.

I did try that. I ended up with the braid sticking to the pins, which I eventually got off. Also, when I heat one side the solder clings to the underside of the pins, then I turn it over and gravity pulls it the other way, while I'm using the braid on the top side.
