So I've been browsing this forum for just over a week now, doing a hell of a lot of reading, and learning a ton.
After securing myself a spare wii console off ebay for the bargain price of £1! I'm in the process of gathering parts I need for a portable wii project.

Originally the idea came to me after I removed a car dvd player with a 9 inch screen. It had AV input, and looked perfect... Until I wired up everything to test it, and realised I couldn't switch to AV input without a remote (which I didn't have)

So now I'm after a new screen with a compatable AV board.
I found this on ebay: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/292630726885
It looks promising, not a bad price and the AV board is nice and tiny.

I've already done the whole portablizemii shtick, and removed everything I won't need from the board.

I've also got myself a set of 4x18650's with holders.
I plan to eventually trim the board and run it on batteries as 2s2p, which will give me 7.4v and some decent running time (in theory).

In terms of regulators, I would love to get the PMS and be done with it, but Ideally I wanna spend as little as possible (for this version anyway) but could anyone suggest any other regulator solutions? Ideally I'd like play and charge too. Links would be appreciated.

Before I even think about anything else, like controls, casing, I wanna use on this project, I think I need to sort these basic requirements first and get the thing functioning untethered.

Hi, can't you just put the car DVD player to the av input with the IR blaster on your phone? There are a lot of apps which can help with this.

We have the opensource power management system for the Wii which will handle all the power switching and regulating. Tt is also a great value if you assemble it yourself (if you already have a hot air station and a lot of time). They are going to be available on the store soon (link). But if you go with the power management system you will not be able to have your batteries in series. The system only excepts 1s battery packs. This will not affect the running time.

Good luck with your portable and welcome to bitbuilt!

Unfortunately, I've not had a phone with an IR blaster in over 10 years. The driver board has been binned now anyway.

I've splashed out a little and got myself some half decent bits.

Regulators: Powermii Lite from the Bitbuilt store

Play and charge board:https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/311721987212

2x 2x18650 holders: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/283399070044

7" Lcd screen with a small driver board: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/292630726885

Mini Stereo Amp: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/132625640547

I've already got some small speakers, All the tools and wires I need.
I also bought 2 cheap gamecube controllers, and plan on splitting the board, using the original sticks&buttons and wiring directly to the board.

Is there anything I've overlooked?

That little amp you've linked doesn't have on-board volume adjustment, you'll need to get a 50k stereo volume wheel potentiometer to lower the output volume. Else it'll be maxed out all the time.

Knew I overlooked something. Cheers for the heads up. I chose that board as it didn't have on board volume adjustment, as most had a hideously huge volume nob.
Thanks again

Edit. Just bought a nice 50k wheel. And Before I asked any stupid questions I've just done some research on how potentiometers work and how to wire it up. In hindsight, it's a good thing I got that amp board, as now I don't have to unsolder anything from the board to relocate the volume control :) and now I get classic game boy style volume control :D

Now the question is! Do I attach the amp circuit before or after the wii' s preamp? Id assume after

You can attach it before or after. I generally do it before just so that I don't have to worry about powering the preamp.

Just thought... Potentiometer wise, wouldn't I want a 5 pin opposed to a 3 pin?
I just sat and thought about the inputs and outputs, and from what I understand, using a 3 pin will only produce mono sound output, whereas a 5 pin will produce proper stereo sound, due to the L and R channels not being merged

Correct me if I'm wrong

That's correct, you need a 5 pin wheel.

I tried wiring up a 50k pot. It cuts off the volume far too early.
Also tried a 10k pot, still cuts off far to early.
Ordered a 1k pot, hopefully that does the job.
50k is FAR too much resistance for a 5v amp with 3w speakers
