Having some annoying controller issues. I've tested and have gotten the internal controller working at one point. This picture is when I was testing with a controller port. My pinout is correct but for some reason the controller works for a short duration and then later on refuses to communicate with the ps2. I've narrowed it down to the ps2 motherboard. It doesn't help that I've removed all the passives on the motherboard and the data signals are all soldered to tiny traces so I haven't pin pointed the problem specifically yet. Please excuse the messy wiring, I've spent a lot of time trouble shooting but you can see the difficulty of the wiring

No, it's clearly unacceptable. It's not perfectly soldered or perfectly routed or anything like that.

I wish I could offer suggestions for the controller but PS2 is foreign to me.
I know, let me chuck this in the garbage real quick.

Sadly there are not too many people that would be able to help me with the issue. Hopefully I can figure it out in 3 days!

Yesterday, I ripped out the old ps2, trimmed a new one, rewired the vga mod, memory card, and controller. All in 7 hours! I'm finally at the same state I was a week ago except it actually works now. My old ps2 trim was the first trim i did months ago and with all the voltage testing. I think it might have just gotten screwed up somehow. Tonight I will be relocating the audio dac, audio amp, and other miscellanious wiring.

I did an intermediate trim first before removing the video chip to verify functionality and the vga mod.

I hate doing this mod. Even with 20/20 vision assisted by reading glassses, I had a difficult time making out which trace I was soldering to.

That's basically why I never had a PS2 :D but looks quite challenging for me now..
Anyway.. Awesome work mate!

Nice work gman,

I was wondering how long the battery life is for the ps2 with only the 2 batteries.
The modded ps2 draws around 4.65watts. In consideration with the efficiency and other portable components, I'd say with a 7.4v 3.4Ah battery, it probably evens out to around 3-4 hours.

My controller boards. I used these tact switches because they feel like a combination of squishy and tactile clicky while being shorter than the standard squishy buttons. There is an original PS2 controller IC on the back of the left board.

Would it be possible to convert this into a raspberry pi 3 portable? I want to make PSOne classic portable and that case look cool.

i dont have the money for a vita.
If you don't have the money for a Vita, you certain dont have the money for a portable. Portables are extremely expensive to build
