I have looked through lots of pictures of internals and i just what to clarify. Do most people just have a flat 3d printed piece with holes in it and the button pins are fed through there and soldered? Would any glue be used to secure the buttons or would the solder be enough? And are there other ways other than custom pcbs to do this.
Sorry just some noob questions in my first thread. :)

Many people simply do just that: a 3d printed piece with holes for the for the legs of the switches. That way you can get the alignment right without having to worry about a custom PCB. I would suggest you put a small dab of epoxy or super glue under the button to keep it in place if you go that route.
