So this is less portable mods and more repair, but here is it.

I've been seeing the Error 160-1400 pop up quite a bit on Wii U consoles and I've been trying to find a way to fix it. I was hoping if anyone had some good idea's they could share them here and I can give them a try!

What I know:
- When unit powers on, it goes right to error screen before main menu
- Replacement laser dosen't fix the problem
- Drives are married, so unable to swap the logic board
- replacement drive dosen't fix it (tested with original and new logic board)
- Ribbon cables can only go one way

My best guess is that it has something to do with the logic board or the motherboard.
if someone knows what chip the logic board ID is on then maybe I can try swapping out that chip to a new logic board and see if that works?

Are these consoles modded? The first thing that springs to mind is maybe they've been cold boot modded and either an update, or the user accidentally uninstalled, moved, or opened the DS VC that was host to the cold boot files.

I've seen a few threads about the possibility of blown fuses inside the drive, but all the info is from 2015-2016 and no-one has any answers. This may just be Nintendo's red ring.

Yeah I've seen alot of people have this problem. but no one has been able to find a permanent fix. It would be awesome if we where able to do that.

Have you tried this? Dunno if it'll help, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
lol Yeah I've tried that as well, was never able to get it to work.

I fixed this problem.
I disassembled Wii U and found that traces from dvd-rom go to CPU.
I reflowed cpu on my bga station and it is working now.
I also put a new thermal paste.

Just reflow CPU !!!

Nice! I'll have to give it a try.
I have tried reflowing the CPU for a few different problems before but they never worked out for me.
Have some pointers on reflowing it?

"Just" My dude, do you even normal people? That's not exactly a simple task, and it needs equipment most of us don't have. It's good to know that it's a solution to some issues, though.
