A Simple Nintendo 64 Portable That Redefines Elegance

by Noah on December 5, 2016

Miceeno over on the forums has been busy at work on his latest Nintendo 64 portable dubbed the Nintendo Sixty 4or the Win. The unit is truly a marvel that redefines what the average person knows as elegance. Using the methods of yesteryear such as frankencasing in his build, Miceeno was able to use an old router as the enclosure for his latest completed project.

His latest work features a 3.5″ TFT LCD screen pulling composite video from the N64. For sound, Miceeno decided to go with the illustrious 3DS speakers as they are able to get quite loud while retaining sound clarity and quality. The controls are a combination of various controllers as well as consoles bundled into one unit. For the analog stick, Miceeno chose a 3DS slider as his stick of choice. The other buttons on the unit are from a DS Lite as well as a PSP. Not only is this unit slim and sturdy but it also has an internal smart charging PCB for the battery pack inside to allow almost any DC power source to charge his portable (given that it’s the right voltage. Wouldn’t want the cells to blow up!) In order to check and see how much play time is left on the charge, Miceeno built in a glorious LED “fuel gauge” in order to keep track of the current battery level.

Miceeno has proven that even with seemingly “outdated” techniques one can craft a portable that will sit among the highest ranks of handheld consoles.
