Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing very well during these trying times! I'm just wondering does anyone have any experience with the 5.5" oled screens from aliexpress? If not does anyone have any reasons why they shouldn't be used? (Besides the possibility of burn in). It accepts hdmi and powered over microusb so likely runs just off 5v, so I'm trying to figure out if in future I should grab one to use.

Thanks a lot!

Looks pretty cool, try it out and let us know how it performs.

I think the reason they haven't been used much yet is because there was no effective way to do it, most of them had no controller board and were designed for phones. Even having to convert VGA to HDMI for this screen is a little sub-optimal.

[EDIT]

To add, it looks like the resolution is 1080×1920 which will mean it's in portrait orientation, not landscape. You'll need additional hardware to rotate the image.

Something like this may be a better choice: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/33006562478.html

Something else to consider is that most Pi screens have no image internal scaling and may not display correctly if fed a lower resolution. You'll need a HDMI output that can provide scaled 1080p to match the screen.
